The piece proposes a parallel between pregnancy and a hallucinatory journey—a 'trip' of profound transformation that confronts both euphoria and the abyss.
The title of the work, Luli in the Sky with Diamonds, ironically evokes the famous Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, alluding to LSD and psychedelic trips. Here, however, the journey is different: it is that of gestation, with its extreme fluctuations of identity, fear, desire, and transformation. Motherhood, often idealized, is stripped of its romantic veil to reveal its reverse side: the emptiness, the uncertainty, the latent perversions, and the shadow that coexists with creation.
